How we check

This page sets out how the eighteen entries were put together and what was left out of them on purpose. It applies to every section of the site, including the winter lodges and the Canadian resorts.

How the hotels were chosen

Four themes were settled first, then hotels that clearly belong to each were found and confirmed as trading. Nothing was included because it was recommended, promoted or paid for. Where a group runs several houses, one named address was picked and the entry says which one it is.

Which sources are used

The hotel's own website comes first, followed by published maps for location, and by reporting in newspapers and the trade press for history and ownership. Where a statement could not be confirmed in those, it was rewritten so that it holds without the missing detail, or removed.

What this site does not carry

There are no prices, no star ratings, no room counts, no reviews, no scores and no booking function. Hotels are not ranked or compared. The gaming floors of the Canadian resorts are not described. Nothing on the site is written on behalf of a hotel or paid for by one.

Reporting an error

Entries go out of date. If a fact here is wrong, please say which entry, which line and what the source shows, and it will be read again. The address is on the contact page.
